Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

the first time i watched eternal sunshine, i was an angsty, impulsive 16-year-old experiencing her first break-up with someone who - naively, at the time - she thought she could spend the rest of her life with. i was overly emotional and excessively idealistic, but you’re supposed to be when you’re 16; ”reality” isn’t a rule that applies to you.

and yet, to fill the absence of that once all-consuming love, i had to replace it with an equally strong…

IMAX 3D Re-Release

“Titanic was called the ship of dreams. And it was. It really was.”

First time seeing it in theaters. Like seeing it for the first time ever again.

Leo was unforgivably robbed of an Oscar nod (and remains as breathtakingly, painstakingly hot as ever), as was Cameron’s script!!! Iconic line after iconic line and unparalleled story structure and set-up and payoff!!! A disgrace!!!

This is what Nicole Kidman meant when she said “we come to this place for magic.”

After eight viewings of Avatar: The Way of Water, I can finally say I’ve spent 24 hours on Pandora.

(And if I could only watch this movie on repeat for the rest of my life, I would.)

Saw Avatar in 4DX for the first time last night (my seventh watch overall, and my first 4DX film since the 2014 Godzilla) and I’m literally sore today after being sprayed, shoved, and shook for three hours in my seat and isn’t that all we want from the movies?

(Still ∞/5 stars btw and it’ll be a long time before another movie makes me feel this way!!!)

Avatar: The Way of Water is an awe-inspiring blend between a nature documentary and a blockbuster - a thrilling three-hour-long travelogue through the oceans of Pandora with deep feeling in its foundation and an unspeakably epic third act that will leave you breathless and in tears.

It’s just so rare to watch a blockbuster that’s both formally ambitious and full of authentic emotion. This is no “empty” epic - as James Cameron once again revolutionizes VFX, he’s also sharing a…

Staggeringly successful long-form storytelling, with one of the most expertly assembled ensemble casts in any project across any medium that I’ve had the pleasure of watching perform in at least... a decade? I’m simply speechless at how Mare of Easttown not only managed to up the ante with its central mystery each and every week, but also still stick the landing in a fantastically satisfying finale, which achieved a sense of spiritual resonance that so few films and miniseries can…

Emma Thompson bring the only person to have won Academy Awards for both acting and screenwriting because of her wondrous work here... that’s history luv x

(Also there will never be another man as gloriously gorgeous as 90s Hugh Grant and that’s a FACT)

Ammonite

Ammonite is “ammonalright.” Though the first half is slightly more staid and subdued, the chemistry really starts to crackle after the first hour, as Winslet & Ronan truly do throw themselves into these roles (with Winslet emerging as the MVP). Perhaps lacks some ion overall, but enjoyable in the end, and an empathetic exploration of emotional repression.

★★½ 1

Some truly captivating cinematography aside, Disney’s new Black Beauty is sadly still a pretty sluggish and uninvolving story overall. Mackenzie Foy is a lovely lead, and Kate Winslet’s narration is nice enough, but it ultimately doesn’t add anything new to the oft-told tale.
