I’m just so obsessed with the way that this movie is shot and directed. Pearl really is like a fucked up version of those technicolor classics with a main ingenue character a la Judy Garland (The Wizard of Oz especially). Mia Goth knows how to commit to her characters 100%. I think what works about this movie is that it’s about the need to be loved and for attention, something everyone has, taken to its murderous extreme. This movie also reminds me a lot of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. I’m ready for the crossover movie Pearl vs Baby Jane
Started to watch this last night but got too sleepy, and then started to watch this when I woke up but was still too sleepy got some caffeine and finished lol.
The propaganda is on full display here and as someone who isn’t feeling particularly patriotic recently it’s not my favorite. The thing is though, Gene and Judy are simply electric together though and every time they sing the movie is great. Standout numbers are For Me and My Gal…
So I’ve found that movies whose primary genre is romance just aren’t my favorite genre, but I can still say this is a well done one, and I love how sensitive and sweet Robert Walkers character was, and also that they let Judy be a glamorous romantic lead! She is absolutely gorgeous in this movie and I’m glad they let her star in this
It’s weird how people’s feelings on this one really seem to indicate what they value in a Mission: Impossible movie. To be quite honest I don’t think any of these movies really have super strong plots, when I think of these movies I think of the absolutely amazing set pieces and this movie just back to back has great set pieces, but I also just love the banter and fun of the team in this one.
