Why does a chicken farm have a popcorn silo?

As I watched this I had to pull back and ponder why this didn’t particularly work for me. I adore the first film, and sure never felt that the film needed a sequel, but I was excited to spend more time with these characters and after watching it, yeah this felt a little pointless.

I think a big hole is the lack of that Nick Park charm, he’s not involved in this one and that wry britishness is certainly missed. Also I just wasn’t as interested in the Happy Chicken farm, there’s something down and dirty about the original farm and it’s great escape parody that is more my thing. It’s not as interesting when the farm isn’t realistic. I also missed a lot of the characters from the first, the extended cast weren’t as prevalent and a lot of our run time was split between our three protagonists.

This is an entertaining family film, but that’s about it. It’s not as clever, funny or as necessary as the first. Aardman can produce much much better
