I honestly got such a thrill from the "It is written" tease. Every time someone said it, I was hoping that someone would complete the reference it seemed to be building to so I quietly rejoiced when Ethan finally follows through with "Nothing is written" in the final act. Iconic. Last weekend's IFI Lawrence of Arabia 70mm crew would truly appreciate the reference.

This is not a good film. It’s nothing. An empty vessel. No heart. No joy. No humour. 

Speaking to a friend afterwards, they posited that maybe Marsh was trying to channel the bleakness of Beckett’s work. This, however, would fail to recognise the comedy and vitality of his work. And even if that was the case, it was still unsuccessful. The film is just boring and uninspired.

I've never been so glad to have put a film on the back burner for so long because it meant that my first time seeing this was on the big screen.

I already knew going in that this would be a visually stunning film, but I honestly was not prepared for just how beautiful it was — overwhelming, bring-you-to-tears gorgeous. It is truly one of the most beautiful films I’ve ever seen.
