Jay’s review published on Letterboxd:
This was really great and exactly what I wanted from the Predator franchise after Prey, just separate self contained stories of different eras throughout human history encountering a Predator and seeing how each time period would deal with. The first two sections of this are perfect, The Shield and the Sword. I love the Viking tale of revenge, Ursa is just badass too. She mows down like a whole village with her shields and it’s one of the best action moments here. I also like the ending she gets with the Predator. The giant design for the Predator was really cool too. The Sword was great with the two brothers, and probably the best section in this. A silent samurai action film is genius, I liked how that story resolved too.
The weakest section by FAR was the Bullet. I just hated the guy we follow man, the others are older and come from an ancient lineage of warriors and then we get this fuck ass kid who’s a pilot. Everything he says just pisses me off, and compared to how the other fought the predators he’s the least qualified too. The ending was alright, I don’t really like the direction gone with all of them. I think it would’ve been much better if we got a better third section in the movie. I did like the tease it has to the other movies in the series.
The animation here was really great. It was described as Spider-Verse esque before, but honestly it’s more like Arcane. I wish this and Prey released in theaters, but I’m more excited to see Badlands now
