2010

★★★★★ Rewatched

I added this to letterboxd because this is one of the most staggering instances of world-building I have ever seen. So many clever details densely packed into only 10 minutes. Unreal.

Every time I watch this I find something new to be surprised by. It’s like they took an hour-long news presentation from something out of “idiocracy” meets “mad max” with the linguistic engineering of “a clockwork orange” and condensed it into a brain-obliterating 10 minute assault on the senses, that still manages to be a functionally devastating criticism of contemporary society and also fucking hilarious.

I’m so disoriented and alienated by annos choices that it fails to have any emotional impact on me. He tries to do like 7 things all at once and does not juggle them with a sense of rhythm. His work makes me feel claustrophobic and I’m not even claustrophobic. I’m pretty frustrated with this and the series…

If you showed this to the original 1920s nosferatu audience I think they would spontaneously combust

So cool, incredibly creative, but no

I can’t really see it for what it aspires to be. In practice I saw it mostly as a chaotic demonstration of special effects, with too much cheese to feel any real sense of shock or horror.

There were moments where I felt something, but they were quickly lost in a seemingly randomized barrage of scenes that only said “LOOK HOW CRAZY THIS SHIT IS!!” without giving me a reason to actually care, or literally…
