Watching Se7en once is not enough. This is a mystery. You are a detective. A detective does not overlook a case once. They do it several times, and this film is very much akin to a murder case. There's plenty of substance here, and one watch is merely flipping through the pages.

As with all David Fincher films, the story isn't merely one you can peer into from behind the fourth wall. Fincher always grabs you harshly by the collar and throws you into the room with force. The disturbing, yet captivating mystery of the Se7en serial killer is one you can simply not resist getting involved into. The shocking nature of each murder brings us further into the film, wondering what sick, twisted monster could ever perform such an act? The script doesn't give way easily. If you want to know, very much similar to the detectives in the story, you have to possess determination.

The circumstances of the events of this film make sure that you're firmly in place with Freeman's and Pitt's similar, yet differing mindset, bringing us along with them for the ride. Ingenious, for especially when we learn more about the killer, we become more acquainted with these people, which really makes the climax that more exciting, in that we expect people to do certain things. The tension just amounts and amounts and gives way in a burst of wonderfully constructed emotion and suspense.

The direction really is outstanding and matches the persistently engrossing screenplay throughout the entire duration of the film. Fincher knows just what to highlight to enhance character and what to treat with the appropriate amount of ambiguity, providing the audience with that all essential unpredictable yet completely logical conclusion.

Se7en, along with Fight Club and Zodiac to name two others, are all testaments to the outstanding work of David Fincher and the writers involved. It's a wonder that Andrew Kevin Walker managed to write this stunningly brilliant script considering the reception his other films receive. One has to assume that everyone has their fifteen minutes of fame, but the work will never be forgotten. Se7en will go down in history as one of the best mystery, thrillers out there and it most certainly deserves that accolade.
