A horror that works so well because it is seeped in real and relatable human emotion and drama. That's not to say it isn't pure horror; there were several moments that made me squirm in ways few films have. It's gnarly, beautiful, sad and emotional in surprising ways. Hawkins is great, as well as the three main young actors, all in tough roles and I felt for all of them despite how monsterish some of them became. This is definitely the best horror I've seen in awhile.
