Valérie Donzelli, French director and actress born in 1973 in Épinal.
Initially an actress, Valérie Donzelli gained attention in the early 2000s, particularly for her role in Martha... Martha by Sandrine Veysset. She then moved behind the camera and directed her first feature film, The Queen of Hearts, a quirky romantic comedy, in 2009. In 2011, she directed Declaration of War, an autofiction co-written with Jérémie Elkaïm that portrays the battle of two parents facing their young son's illness. The film was a major public and critical success.
She then adapted a screenplay by Jean Gruault, originally written for François Truffaut, into Marguerite & Julien. In 2021, she ventured into television with a feminist family saga, Nona et ses filles. Just the Two of Us won the César for Best Adaptation in 2024. In parallel, Donzelli works as a producer and continues her acting career, both in her own films and with directors such as Audrey Diwan, Sophie Fillières, and Bertrand Bonello.
