Didnt enjoy this as much as the former two. It loses their grit with a more polished look, is shot weird and too close up, and has less sense of characterization. Still a lot to like, kaleidoscopic sex, a zany sex-crazed ensemble and a crazy ending to name a few.
Sean Baker now with seemingly endless funding compared to his earlier films is still doing what he does best—depicting how capitalism is so sick it’s funny (until it’s not)—only now with the sprawling nature of a Safdie brothers street film. Tonally and pace-wise, most of ANORA a return to the electricity of TANGERINE, but Baker still knows when to slow down and let scenes breathe.
