Maggie Simpson in "Playdate with Destiny"

2020

★★½ Watched

Watched as prep for the new episode. It was better than the short which is just kinda weird.

Yeah, I still watch new Simpsons. It's hit and miss. Not necessarily a waste of time.

Robin Hood

Can’t wait to see how realistic physics turns the joy of this lighthearted classic into nightmare fuel when I watch the live-action remake trailer.

Never Surrender: A Galaxy Quest Documentary

2019

★★★½ Watched

90% "this movie would've sucked if they didn't have blank or added blank" but still a fond love letter that's pleasant to watch. I'll it I choked up in that fan screening near the end. Wish I could've gone.

And it made me bump Galaxy Quest up half a star after being on the fence about it which is the most a doc like this can do.

Space Jam

It may be designed to sell lunchboxes to feed Michael Jordan's ego, but it does know how to set up and pay off genuine excitement through its sense of cinematic fun (if at the expense of all logic, but that's Looney Tunes for ya).

Fantastic Mr. Fox

A cussin' triumph.

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure

Watched this instead of Abel Gance's Napoleon.

The logic of this movie is its blessing and curse.

I ire the ambition but the execution is too wooden.

Toy Story 2

The Toy Story series is just so perfect. I'm bumping this up to a 9/10, like the rest of the films. Really hard to find merit in my former complaints.

Toy Story is not just ok. :'(

Vegas Vacation

1997

★★½ Watched

I know I said I wasn't going to waste my time but honestly I was kind of amused enough with its low-grade tacky sense of humour and I needed to turn my brain off for 90 minutes. I think both being stuck at home right now and having gone on holiday to Vegas and the Hoover Dam recently helped. Better than the European Vacation, it better captured the spirit of the first movie.

Rushmore

When I was a teenager, I made my guitar teacher teach me the soundtrack to Rushmore instead of scales lol.

My first viewing of this was my first date with my future wife so I’ve always held it close to my heart, if not as close as some other Wes Anderson.

But this time, round six, I spotted some key ironies that must have gone over my head the first few times that really tied it together a lot more. It’s splendid.

The only reason I hold back on my enthusiasm for it is because I think it’s Wes’ 7th best film, but it grows on me each viewing.

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery

They took James Bond off Prime before I was ready so I'm watching this instead.
