Includes documentaries and festival films of 2024 that have their first national release in 2025 (i.e. The Life of Chuck, Friendship). There is a 1,000-watch minimum threshold for any films to be eligible and films need a 'trusted' average rating (i.e. a rating not hidden from the page) before they enter the list. For a version of the list without documentaries and a lower minimum, see Rahat's roundup.
Further exclusions:
• Short films, TV specials, concerts, stand-up specials, live theater and web videos. Films need a valid IMDb and TMDb page.
• TV miniseries or making of featurettes, unless they had theatrical distribution.
• Music-adjacent documentaries are excluded unless they have a film festival premiere. They are prone to fan manipulation.
• Films that extend or conclude narratives from TV shows despite a theatrical release. Prequels, spin-offs, or standalone films are allowed.
See the Letterboxd 'Official' List Network. This list will conclude the week after the Academy Awards.
