I’ve got mixed feelings about this one.
The Substance definitely has an interesting plot. The performances were good, but not really anything mind blowing. The cinematography has some highs and some very notable lows. At some point, it felt like they were trying too hard with the camera movements.
There were some moments in the film I felt weren’t properly covered. I’d even go as far as saying, it lacked a bit of substance. I mean, how did Sue seriously…
Not exactly the greatest, but it’s a decent film.
The first third of the film feels slow with the introduction of various characters and nods to the film’s previous Marvel movies (or prequels) feeling quite lame and boring, at times a bit corny.
The last 2 thirds of the film are quite good though, enjoyable.
The fight scenes are really well done.
Anora is quite a well done film. The storyline is clear and well directed. It doesn’t get over the top to a point where it feels boring.
The performances are quite good as well, but my favorite of all was Karren Karagulian as Toros.
He was really the standout to me, and it confuses me how he isn’t getting as much hype as his costars.
Yuri and Mikey were great.
The screenplay and direction (not exactly the performances) are the main highlights in this movie. That’s what truly makes this an outstanding film.

This is quite a great film. A big shift from the usual Oscar Best Picture picks but it is just incredible nonetheless.
The story is quite interesting and told well. It is also a film that's able to capture more than just your attention but also actually get you to empathise with the various characters.
