Phenomenal concept and some incredibly funny bits, but boy did this drag on.

I’m genuinely fascinated by the post soviet early 90s and this has been the best representation of the era that I’ve ever seen. 

Great depiction of lawlessness across the board that turned into the next generations’ ruling elite. 

Hilarious across the board. Very pulpy. Can see lots of Tarantino and Guy Richie influence for sure.

A movie about late stage capitalism in a far away galaxy you say?

It’s got some incredibly funny lines scattered around a bunch of really pointless bits. 

Its seemingly shoestring budget prevented it from being a really phenomenal movie.
Still worth checking out nonetheless.

Incredible on many levels. 
I’d say the most impressive part is how well the addiction as a result of gruesome labor works as a metaphor for the Bolshevik Revolution. 

This is certainly a must watch Russian film.

At times it’s much more interesting visually, but it lacks that special something that Balabanov flicks bring.

Probably the best film I’ve seen this year. I wonder how much this would translate to western eyes since it’s so blatantly post soviet.

So brutal in so many ways. Yet the purpose of the brutality remains clear throughout. The decaying society of 80s USSR must have been something else.

Yet another Russian 90s gangster movie that is a western at its core.

It’s so fascinating how early 90s Russian mob movies are really just westerns. 

This idea of finding a moral com in a lawless place really resonates huh.

Shoutout to Mosfilm YouTube channel for having so many classics for free. 

But yeah, great rom-com overall. Charming characters and an exquisite setting.
These movies make the Soviet Union seem almost livable.

That skiing scene might be a top 10 movie moment. 
Gotta love the Russian three stooges.

I’m obviously biased, but this movie is special. 
The colors, the music, the Moldovan scenery... 
Yeah it slaps 

But also the ending is stupid. I truly hope that it was Soviet era pressure that caused it to be that.
