i can totally see how this became a big hit in 2010 and got judd apatow to wanna back Girls. compared to most mumblecore, this one's got some solid, charming characters and you may not wanna hear it but lena dunham can write some damn good autobio. it's not too late to pivot to cartooning, babe! the scene would hate you but the books would sell <3

contrary to lilo & stitch breaking the disney formula with something fresh and exciting the previous year, brother bear's got all the tropes of the 90s heavy hitters with none of the success

bad songs, corny jokes, way too many comic relief characters and a folk tale adaptation that doesn't really fit into the 3-act western story structure. with the exception of that one terrible 3D 360 pan shot, the backgrounds and animal animation are quite nice tho

the art is incredible, disney's surprise return to watercolor backgrounds gives this both a throwback storybook feel but also a bright fresh look that lends well to the fun island vibe

character designs are groundbreakingly cool, cute and kinda creepy. stitch walked so baby yoda could run. nani is hot in a way that disney hasn't fucked with before. good on michael eisner for putting a forward thinking horny pervert like chris sanders in charge of the style. nice work…
