Honey

2003

★★★½ Rewatched

For some reason, it feels as though Honey has been a little lost to time. Which is strange as I it being such a pivotal movie for my generation, and it was an absolute star-maker for Jessica Alba.

I haven’t seen the movie since I was a teenager, so rewatching as an adult there are some definite issues on display. Mainly, most of its heavier themes (which cover race, misogyny, child abuse, class issues, drug crime to name a few…) are…

A Walk to

2002

★★★★½ Rewatched

Despite being utterly heartbreaking (I cried at least six times on this most recent rewatch), A Walk to  is such a comfort movie. From its stunning small-town setting to its charming score, the film is like a big warm hug for me.

The story and its characters could be considered fairly familiar (even tropey?), but the lead performances from Shane West and Mandy Moore elevate the material with nuances that wrap you in. Landon is the typical bad-boy with a…

Final Destination Bloodlines

2025

★★★★ Watched

As a huge fan of the Final Destination series, I’m so pumped to say that Bloodlines exceeded all expectations.

Let’s start off with the biggest highlight — the kills. This newest entry features some of the goriest, most inventive and anxiety-inducing deaths in the entire franchise. That’s what we’re here for, and the movie knocked it out of the park!

The opening “vision” was also extremely bloody and creative. From the trailers I was nervous it was going to feel too unrealistic and sensationalised,…

Heart Eyes

2025

★★★ Watched

While I’ve grown a little tired of the (now decade+ long) trend of slashers with a wink-wink nudge-nudge comedy “edge”, Heart Eyes is actually a cute twist on the genre.

Leading with its romcom roots and sprinkling in horror elements, the kills and violence all feel secondary to the meet cutes and frothy dating mishaps.

So when viewed as a love story, Heart Eyes totally works. As a slasher… I’m honestly still sick of the comedic frills.
