There's trouble brewing in Bikini Bottom. Someone has stolen King Neptune's crown, and it looks like Mr. Krab, SpongeBob's boss, is the culprit. Though he's just been ed over for the promotion of his dreams, SpongeBob stands by his boss, and along with his best pal Patrick, sets out on a treacherous mission to Shell City to reclaim the crown and save Mr. Krab's life.

honestly, I feel sorry for scarlett johansson, I bet she re this movie everyday of her life and is reminded that her work is never gonna be as good as this ever again

the scene where spongebob and patrick almost died from drying up is sadder than titanic in its entirety
reasons why this is the greatest movie of all time:
- the opening titles are genius
- it balances a level of meta that doesn’t distract from the main story
- the plot is skilfully layered
- soongebob’s character arc is heartfelt and meaningful
- david hasslehoff
- the soundtrack is killer
- there’s so much emotional depth in the story and characters
- a great progression from the series that didn’t take away from what was done so well on tv
- it’s action packed and high stakes

- the fact all the fish become fish again after the tiniest drop of water like that makes complete sense
- a wonderful happy ending with a final musical number that is the greatest moment in both cinema and music

There are few times in my life where I’m totally checked out. Where I’m free from my worries and my to-do list. Among those times is every time I’ve watched The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie.
In 2018, I saw a 35mm screening of the movie in New York City. It was just days after a devastating breakup, it felt almost foolish to be going to something so juvenile in the midst of a pain that felt so adult. This should be widely regarded as one of the best animated flicks of the century. Surreal, absurdist comedy with some excellent emotional beats. What’s not to like? This entire film is a collection of laugh-out-loud moments; it's brilliant. A film that had no right to be this good. Real ones understand.
