Godzilla vs. Biollante

This film was honestly the peak of the VS Era of Godzilla, it is an entry marked by innovation on a technical and production level that could have only happened this early in the second cycle of the Godzilla franchise.

GODZILLA (1984) was the technical end of the Showa era that in many ways was that section of the series coming full circle: bringing Godzilla back to his darker roots and mixing in contemporary issues that harkened back to the…

The Return of Godzilla

The first and best of the second cycle of Godzilla films, GODZILLA (1984) brings Godzilla into more modern times by infusing it with new and relevent themes of the time and more advanced special effects, while at the same time keeping true to the style and direction that made the Showa era films so good.

A direct sequel to the original, ignoring every film from 1955-1975, GODZILLA (1984) updates the message of the original for the contemporary 1980s setting by…

Oasis of the Zombies

One of the strangest "horror" movies I've seen.

The plot revolves around an oasis in the desert in Africa that has a cargo of gold worth six million dollars that was abandoned there in the war. Now many years later the son of one of the late soldiers on that battlefield comes with a group of his college friends to find the treasure, what they don't know is that it is guarded by the dead soldiers of the garrison who…

It took me a long time before I could really appreciate the genius of this film. I watched it with some friends a long time ago for the first time thinking it was gonna be just some ironic goofy Nic Cage movie and it ended with all of us just shocked and disturbed about what we just witnessed. We really weren’t prepared for that.

Only now years later that I really appreciate this movie and Nicolas Cage as an actor…

What happens when you take Japan's most brilliant science fiction writer, one of Toho's most underrated directors (who would go on to make one of the greatest Godzilla films), an up and coming visual effects director and give them one of the most lavish productions and budget for a Japanese science fiction film? Turns out nothing like you'd ever expect...

SAYONARA JUPITER is certainly a film with a lot of effort put into it. The special effects and production design…

I forgot how fantastic this is. Comedy, energy, choreography, all top notch. The chemistry between Jackie Chan, Yuen Biao, and Sammo Hung is just perfect. Not only one of the best Jackie Chan films, but on one of the best comedy, marital arts, and action films of all time. If you’ve never seen one of Jackie’s Hong Kong movies, this is absolutely recommended.

English dubbed version is recommended because they actually did a great job with this one, and it has in my opinion the best soundtrack out of all versions.

Fist of the North Star

Action-packed, gloriously violent, and suitably grittily animated, FIST OF THE NORTH STAR the motion picture is a LITTY, MASCULINE, and exciting piece of 80s animation that stands the test of time. I'm fairly new to the series, but Kenshiro is quickly becoming one of my favorite anime characters of all time, he has stoic demeanor yet a noble and kind heart and always wants to help others.

The whole thing is gorgeously animated, its gritty and dirty style well fitting…

Why is THE TERMINATOR considered such a great film?

To call this just a great action film would be almost cheapening it, because it's so much more. James Cameron blended genres with this film, fusing elements of horror, science fiction, and even noir to produce a film that is exhilarating, suspenseful, perfectly paced, filled with some of the best directed action set pieces in all of Hollywood. The Tech Noir scene alone is a perfect example of what makes this…

The best movie ever made about a killer crocodilian. Hands down.

But seriously, this is a pretty fun little 80s horror film. Funny, entertaining, and pretty violent at times. It's basically JAWS with an alligator in a sewer and more comedy, and honestly you cant go wrong with that.

Devilman - Volume 1: The Birth

With gritty and violent animation, great pacing, and an amazing score by Kenji Kawai, DEVILMAN: THE BIRTH is a great partial adaptation of Go Nagai's work that succeeds both as an adaptation and an origin story for the titular character of Akira Fudo/Devilman. With great action, characters, pacing, and all the violence associated with the series, Umanosuke Iida's film is sure to be a treat to both veteran fans and people new to the world of Devilman.

THE QUINTESSENTIAL JACKIE CHAN FILM
If there was ever a film worthy of the title of "Greatest Action Movie of all Time", Police Story would be more than fit to hold that honor. Filled with spectacularly choreographed set pieces (both of action and comedy), a story filled with suspense that generates both laughs and intrigue, and one of Jackie Chan's greatest performances on screen (one that allows him to be both funny and serious), Police Story represents the peak of…
