"Listen mister, why'd you choose my place to commit suicide?"
There's a part where Van Cleef is fucking with Kinski and Eastwood is watching the whole thing with a very "this guy is fucking nuts expression". It's a great moment that showcases how fearless and kind of crazy Van Cleefs character is and it's one of my favorite scenes in the whole movie.
A perfect blend of tense dramatics, gun slinging action, sneaky double-crossin', blood pumping bank robbin' and some unexpected comedic relief here and there that hits the mark spot on. Van Cleef and Eastwood as dueling/teamed up bounty hunters out for the same prize is a fun dynamic that only gets better the further along the story goes and the villain with his undesirable bandidos this go around is a sinister/moody son of a bitch that gives this a mean edge and at times gloomy atmosphere.
Leone is again at the top of his game hashing things out with weathered old west swagger and a brilliant story that never has a dull moment and it seems he may have found the key to perfecting the genre. Bringing back Massimo Dallamano was a smart move and means we get that striking visual style to swoon over again as he captures the west (Spain technically) and its characters in a flurry of piercing close ups and a rugged beauty under the high noon sun. Morricone of course kills it, can't get these tunes out of my head now.
Probably the best time I've had with a western next to some of Fulci's outings into this land of saloons, stagecoaches and outlaws.
