I think what makes this one the best of the seventeen Fleischer cartoons is how it nails the formula perfectly. There’s a crazy bad guy, he does some serious destruction, Lois gets herself in trouble along with the serious destruction, Clark calmly claims this is a job for Superman and gets in his iconic costume and the rest of the cartoon is watching Superman save the day. It’s simple and gets a bit repetitive when you do it seventeen times.…

I’m reminded of the time I accidentally read “Superman dies in BVS” somewhere around when the movie was first coming out and I genuinely thought it was a joke. This was early 2016 after all, the force awakens was just out and people were making so many “Han solo dies” jokes that I thought this was one of them. “They wouldn’t be stupid enough to kill off Superman in the second movie of their franchise” I naively thought. Then I went to see it in theaters and lo and behold.
