Watched with director of photography Edward Lachman in attendance. He gave us some really cool insights before the movie and out of the two Sofia Coppola films I've seen, this is definitely my favorite, both thematically and visually. Such great use of color here.

Blitz is Steve McQueen on good behavior. It's entertaining enough and has some striking moments but the screenplay is so paper thin. Even the camerawork felt like step down from his earlier work and I never would have guessed McQueen even directed this. Still a good looking film but a far cry from his collaborations with Sean Bobbitt. It honestly left me feeling similar to 1917. Technically good but doesn't really do anything remarkable thematically as far as war movies go. Except McQueen is a much better director than Mendes (and Blitz doesn't have Roger Deakins to lean on) so it's all the more disappointing.

The type of movie that feels designed for retirement homes. Interesting subject told in a painfully cliché, safe and hokey way. Way too long and the use of score is borderline comical at times. The Pope is introduced like a le epic MCU cameo in this. Good performances though, nearly pumped my fists in the air when I saw Furio Giunta. 

I did not know the dude behind Sound of Freedom directed this beforehand…

I kept dozing off during the film because of seeing it after a long day & night of traveling so I can't give this a rating. What I got out of it wasn't really my jam though.
